Armenian Issues
|
Armenian Issues California’s 19th district is home to more than 20,000 Armenians and I have worked to represent them and their interests throughout my time in Congress. As a democratic stronghold in the Caucasus region, Armenia remains an important ally for the United States. One of the most important issues for Armenians is to see our government properly recognize the Armenian Genocide and for Congress to pass the Armenian Genocide Resolution. As a country, we have a moral responsibility to recognize this historical fact and to ensure that through remembering the lessons of the past we are able to prevent future atrocities from occurring. Other issues facing Armenia include ensuring Armenia’s international assistance through economic and military aid. The need for this aid is highlighted by the illegal blockages by Turkey and Azerbaijan. It is in the national interest of the United States for these countries to normalize relations with Armenia and establish regional cooperation and economic integration. We must also ensure Armenia’s security by providing parity in military funding for Armenia and Azerbaijan. I will continue to work with my colleagues to ensure that issues of mutual importance between Armenia and the United States remain a priority for Congress. Related Documents:
